Mad about Sue!

October 24, 2008

I'm so excited to review yet another in the long line of sugar scrubs that I've fallen in lust with. Today I'll be talking about Mad City Sue.

From her site..."I have been making and selling bath and body products since 2002. All products are made in small batches to ensure freshness. Since my products are all made to order, certain scents may need a little time to fully cure in the products. Many scents need about a week or so to fully blossom so I recommend waiting a few days (I know it is hard!) before judging a scent."

Mad City Sue Sugar Scrub

I received several different sugar scrubs but I'm going to be focusing on her Pixie Sugar Creamy and Moisturizing Whipped Sugar Body Scrub.

This scent was beyond delicious and immediately transported me to my younger years when I used to walk down to local corner market and get candy by the handful. Among these were the ever popular Pixie Sticks (basically flavored sugar in a long tube) and Fun Dips (sugar "sticks" that you lick and then dip into the attached flavored sugar packets). This scrub smells just like a combo of those two cavity causing candies. Yum!

The Pixie Whipped Sugar Scrub needed no cure time - it was amazing the day I got it and remained amazing until I used it up 5 days later. I simply couldn't help myself... I was like a druggie every morning, looking for my daily scrub fix. And let me tell you, going cold turkey has been tough!

This non-greasy, soft scrub is easily scooped from the jar and provides a gentle non-foaming exfoliation. Definitely won't sand your outer layer of skin off as some other, uh, more "robust" scrubs tend to do. But this delight doesn't just exfoliate - it also moisturizes. While it's not greasy, you can feel the slip of the skin-loving oils it's made with and once rinsed off, it leaves your skin feeling baby soft and smooth. Ooooh. Nice!

But by far the best benefit of this scrub was the lingering scent. I was able to get a whiff of pixie sticks for the remainder of the day. Mmmm.

This scrub definitely gets two thumbs way up. Great scent, great moisturization, gentle exfoliation. Just super duper yum. Get Mad today!

Pomegranate...YUM!

October 15, 2008

Well, that was a long week. Haha! 2 consecutive moves (one from AZ to WA and the second from a temp house to our permanent rental) combined with all the related stresses and subsequent getting behind on work made it so updating this blog was the last thing on my mind. However, things are settled down now and I'm ready and raring to go!

This is the first in a number of new reviews that I'll be quickly banging out. Enjoy!

Country Cottage Shea Butter Body SIlk Sugar Scrub

I received a few items from Country Cottage Soap and oh, soooooo delish! Let me start with the Shea Butter Body Silk Sugar Scrub. Since I'm officially a sugar scrub addict at this point...

This is a non-foaming sugar scrub. Typically these non-foaming versions are oil slicks. Yuck. My views on these scrubs haven't changed - I don't like them. But thankfully this is not one of those death-traps-in-a-jar!

The scrub was slightly congealed upon opening with the shea butter solidified at the top. But since I keep my house pretty cool, this didn't surprise me. I carefully stirred it together with my finger and then had to struggle against licking it off. I think it definitely SMELLS better than it tastes. I suppose I should mention that I received the Pomegranate scented version. Beyond delicious. I'm seriously renaming this blog Bath Scrumptious. Or Bath I-Must-Eat-It. This scent is utterly divine.

So after I talked myself out of taking a taste, I scooped out a nice amount and started on my arms. Mmmm... excellent. Not too exfoliating but not too soft either. Just right. The oils and shea butter made for a nice soothing feel while the sugar gently scrubbed. Once I'd finished and rinsed, my arms were baby smooth and moisturized. The water beaded up and ran off.

As I'd been hoping it would, the scent lingered for hours after my shower. While foaming sugar scrubs are my favorite, a well-made non-foaming scrub has the benefit of long-lasting scent. I love this.

On a scale of 1-10, I give this scrub a solid 10. Two thumbs way up. I'll definitely be back to purchase more once this jar is gone!

Country Cottage Reed Diffuser

The second item I received was a Reed Diffuser Set. I have very little experience with reed diffusers so I was anxious to try this out. My previous experiences were not good. The scent didn't linger or travel more than maybe 6 inches from the reeds. Plus, the scents were quite icky. This is probably due to my getting them at Ross. Haha.

So, with trepidation I opened this and put it into my upstairs bathroom. I've never seen black reeds - uber cool. Quite classy looking. I got pomegranate in this as well (man, do I LOVE this scent!!) and within 5 minutes of setting it up on the top of the bathroom cabinet, I could already smell it down the hallway. Within a few hours, I could smell it in the living room. This is out the bathroom door, down the hallway, a left turn through the dining room and another left into the living room. Not a *huge* area to cover, but still - the fact that you could actually smell it at all was fab!

I've had it set up for about 7 weeks now and I flip the reeds once a week. It's just now starting to lose some of the strength so it's not scenting the hallway and surrounding areas anymore, but it's still doing an excellent job in the bathroom.

Maybe this is how all reed diffusers should be, but I was just delighted with this one. It works 1000% better than the others I've purchased. I will definitely be back for a refill and I'll probably be purchasing a few sets to set up through out the house. The laundry room downstairs would benefit from one of these and my bedroom definitely needs one.

Two enthusiastic thumbs up for this awesome product. I most assuredly recommend this item! You must go buy a set. Now!

new look!

June 15, 2008

We have a new look! I got tired of the old blue, blah, boring look so I did a quick redo. This is more befitting my style and is a nice upgrade to the blog.

After several moves in just a few months, I'm obviously way behind in posting. This coming week will see a catch-up of sorts as I race through the product reviews I've been saving up. Up first - a monster SCRUB post. I've got quite a few to talk about and they're all fabulous in one way or another!

So check back in a few days and I'll have my thoughts on some delicious scrubs.

Ho ho ho it's Magic...

March 14, 2008

Magic Hands Workshop Body Polish

Ho ho ho It's magic you know
Never believe, it's not so
It's magic, you know
Never believe, it's not so!

Yes, it IS Magic. Magic Hands Workshop, to be exact. But that's not the point I'd like to make here. I'm referring to the magic that IS the Body Polish that comes from a place called Magic! Still with me?

This stuff is The Bomb! A few months back (I told you I was behind!) I was sitting around one night, doing some web work when I had a burning desire to go shopping. My fingers were tingling as I perused the wonders of the endless line of B&B products that stretched out before me. However, it didn't take long to hit upon what I really wanted - some sugar scrub. I'm totally (newly) addicted to this stuff! So, I chose the Body Polish from Magic Hands in Pecan Pie and Sugar Cookies. (commence drooling now...)

Then came the wait. It was only all of 2 days, since they were just one state over from me, but still. When you're jonesing for something scrubby and sweet, the wait can seem endless. But, my patience paid off when the mailman appeared at my door with a small box. I yanked it from his hands and slammed the door in his face in my hurry to rush to the kitchen to cut the box open. My husband walked in while I was flinging packing material here and there and watched in amusement as I finally reached the treasured jars inside and flung the box on the floor (never, EVER get in the way of a woman who is opening a package!). I excitedly unscrewed one cap and held it up for a long, deep whiff. Ahhh.... just as I thought. Uber delish!!

I held out the jar to hubby and he took a whiff, looked at me with a serious expression, and then told me I needed to put that on "right now." When informed that it was a SCRUB and not a perfume, he told me to go shower. Right. Now. lol.

The shower came the next morning and oh, what a shower it was! My sugar scrub obsession was still in the infant stage at this point and this particular scrub is solely responsible for taking it straight to the next level - full blown obsession. Forget the kiddie stages, this was the genuine thing!

The incredibly decadent and sweet scent of pecan pie hovered about the shower like an explosion in a bakery. I swear I gained 5 pounds in the 15 minutes I stood in the shower - it's just *that* realistic and *that* good. The sugar is not too scrubby and there is just enough of it so it gives you a nice, gentle exfoliation while it softly bubbles and foams to cleanse and soften. Since it's made with yummy cocoa butter, you're left with soft and moisturized skin. Nothing stripping or drying about this scrub.

As I'm a HUGE foodie scent lover, in my book there isn't anything better than scrubbing with things like smell like cookies and cakes and other delish baked goods. However, if you're not a foodie fanatic like I am, there are plenty of other more crisp and clean scents for you. Scents like Lavender, Energy, Sandalwood, and Cucumber Mint. Of course, these could not possibly hold a candle to Pecan Pie (swoon!) and Mint Sugar Cookie (be still my beating heart) but to each their own, I suppose!

I emerged from my maiden shower with Magic Hands and ran straight to my hubby for a sniff. He carefully sniffed my neck and arms and pronounced that I was delicious and he needed a kiss. Woot!

I ADORE the body polish from Magic Hands and implore you - for the love of everything sweet and scrubby - go get yours NOW!! They have a website and an etsy shop for shopping convenience. And they're happy to custom scent something... just for you!

Enjoy! And don't blame me when you suddenly start spending hours and hours in the shower each week. Scooping out one decadent glob after another of this truly magnificent creation. Yum!

Scrub Delicious!

February 15, 2008

It's been a few months since I've last posted about anything and I have a whole slew of things about which to comment.

I'm getting ready to move in less than 2 weeks so as I find time, I'll start reviewing the products that currently have me over the moon... there are quite a few! :)

Scentables Candles

November 06, 2007

I love candles. I believe that this has been well-established by now. So it's time for another candle review.

Scentables Candles

Scentables Candles makes a variety of different soy wax in candles in a huge number of scents. One can choose from floral, foodie, bakery, fresh & clean, nature, and more. With all of these, I was hard pressed to choose just a few. It was more like "one of each, please!" But, sanity reared its ugly head and I managed to stave off the beast of compulsive shopping and limit myself to just a half dozen or so different choices.

My favorite scents are bakery and other "foodie" scents so the majority of what I chose is enough to cause huge weight gain since I want cake and cookies and doughnuts and apple crisp now!

These candles have an amazing cold throw. If you cannot burn a candle for some reason, you could simply remove the lid and let it sit on your dresser, desk or counter. It won't scent as strongly as when it's lit but it scents enough that you'll know it's there.

Once I did light the wick, it's as though I'd summoned a scent storm. A cloud of heavenly fragrance hovered for a brief moment over the candle and then slowly spread through the room filling every corner with the deliciously heavenly aroma of Cinnamon Vanilla. Our home has an open floor plan so each room just flows into the next. One small single wick candle from Scentables Candles was enough to scent the entire living/dining/family/kitchen area after just 30 minutes or so. Yum.

What I really appreciate about these candles is the fact that they are soy based. Because of this you don't get the black soot in the jar (or on your walls) and no odor of burning wax. The burn is clean and even.

Scentables Candles also offers wax melts which are available in the same scents as their candles. In addition, there are a number of different warmers to choose from. You could pick up a warmer and a few packs of melts as a Christmas gift for friends or family or as a treat to yourself! I, of course, would know nothing about doing this. No, I'm entirely innocent...

The candles come packaged in bubble wrap and surrounded by peanuts. No chance of opening the box to find broken glass anywhere.

I've tried a variety of scents and I've not yet found one I don't like. The are all incredibly strong and long-lasting... without being obnoxious or in your face. I'm sure we've all been around those strongly-scented candles that smell like granny's perfume and bring tears to your eyes. Not these. No, these are simply divine, elegant, delicious candles.

Check out their Monthly Special. Each month a different 11.5 ounce candle is on sale for $10.00 (normally priced $13.00). This month is Caramel Pecan. Yum. I may just have to go order a candle. Or three...

Yummy Bath Desserts!

October 25, 2007

I am in heaven. I've found what may well be the BEST sugar scrub in the history of the world. For real!

Bath Desserts offers a line of hemp seed butter based bath products...

Sorbet Sugar Scrub: Pamper your body from head to toe with Bath Desserts' unique Sorbet Sugar Scrub. We have combined sugar and hemp seed butter to create a highly effective hydrating scrub. Hemp seed butter is exceptionally rich in essential fatty acids that nourish the skin and helps reduce moisture loss from the skin. It absorbs quickly into the skin and does not leave a greasy feel. No lotion is needed after exfoliation with Bath Desserts Sorbet Sugar Scrubs. It is simply the best with it comes to exfoliation.

Bath Desserts It IS the best, and not just at exfoliation!

The texture of this is like mousse. Think decadent chocolate mousse. But instead of being just fluffy and soft, there are sugar bits in there. So you have a silky, fluffy texture married to your exfoliation. The result is sheer heaven. It's like bathing in a dessert and to be quite honest, the scent made me feel like I was a big dessert myself! An aura of ctirus hung in the shower and was there for the remainder of my bathing time. I don't think I've ever had an experience quite like this one before. It was unique and incredible.

As the scrub emulsified with the running water, it turned into a nice creamy consistency that left my skin baby soft and silky smooth. No greasy residue or grit to be found. And it washed cleanly from the shower floor - a big plus in my book. There is nothing like doing the "Can I Stay Upright" fancy footwork dance as you climb in or out of the tub. No worries with this one. I really appreciate this!

I asked the owner how she got her scrub so fluffy and she told me it was the magic of using hemp oil. That may be, but I think that she has something to do with it. She is a real Scrub Master!

But I think the single most amazing thing about this incredible scrub is the lasting power. On days that I used this in the shower, I was able to go *all day* without using my normal perfume or spritzers. The scent was there enough that I had people ask me what I was wearing - that I really smelled good. I had to laugh as I told them I had used a sugar scrub that morning in the shower and it was still lingering about! When combined with the fruity scents I typically wear, I floated through my day on a fragrant cloud of happiness. There is something about getting whiffs of the yummy scent that just cheered my spirits.

I rate this a 10 out of 10. I cannot think of a single negative thing to say about Bath Desserts Sugar Sorbet Scrub. It's crave-a-licious!!

You can purchase Sugar Sorbet Scrub here. While you're there, also check out their Body Melt Truffles. Utterly divine and a *great* companion product to the Sugar Scrub!
