Every ingredient in our products has a specific benefit and purpose - there is no filler." I have straight hair. Not stick straight, but barely a wave and nary a curl to be seen. I generally do not style my hair into anything even close to wavy or curly, but when I started hearing about Jessicurl, my interest was peaked. At the time, I didn't know one could make hair care products unless you were in a lab or something, so the idea of a gal starting her own curly hair care line was quite fascinating. I continued to hear the buzz about Jessi's products for quite some time before I couldn't stand it any longer. I simply had to order some for myself and see how marvelous it truly was. Certainly it wouldn't live up to the hype - a handmade hair care product? I think not! Yes, I was wrong. (Don't tell me you didn't see that one coming...) Jessicurl's products DO work! First off, the Island Fantasy scent is divine. To die for. It might sound silly but I would use these products, even if they did nothing, just for the smell. My husband comments on how great my hair smells every time I use them. So from the scent stand point alone, Jessicurl rates a solid 10 out of 10. Yummy! In this review, we're going to focus on my 4 favorite Jessicurl products. Having tried several of the other products available, I can unequivocally state that they are well worth the price. However, we don't have room for a novella on every product Jessicurl makes, so the following four will be covered in this review. Gentle Lather Shampoo: As one who tries to avoid as many chemical agents as possible, the fact that Jessicurl's shampoo is SLS free is a huge bonus. The Gentle Lather Shampoo provides just that - a gentle lather that easily cleans my hair and leaves it feeling fresh and residue free. Even on my highlighted and colored hair, this shampoo cleanses without stripping or drying. It is a bit thinner than your commercial shampoos but a quick shake of the bottle before dispensing helps me to get past that. Just a small amount is enough to adequately clean my shoulder length hair. Confident Coils Styling Solution: This product alone provides definition and hold. This is the first of the 3 styling products I now use on a daily basis. The consistency is like a conditioner and not only imparts a delicious scent to your hair, it also helps with fly away hair and static cling. With my fine, thin hair, this is a must-have styling solution. Whether going curly or straight, Confident Coils provides needed hold. Gelebration Spray: My absolute favorite! You know what I hate most about mainstream hair care products? The smell of alcohol. With every spray or pump, I can feel my hair drying out from the excessive use of the myriad of alcohols used. And all that alcohol gives me a sneezing fit each and every time I use those other products. So what a treat to find that not only Gelebration Spray, but all of Jessicurl products are free from this offensive odor. My hair is definitely softer and not as dry as a result. Gelebration Spray is what makes my hair curl. A few spritzes on my hair and when I blow dry with a diffuser and scrunch handfuls of hair - I get (gasp) actual CURLS. I about fell over the first time I used this. The only curls my head has seen were from the perms I used to get through the late 80's and into the mid 90's. This stuff is the bee's knees. And of course, it too smells great! And if I can obtain curls from using this product, it's a sure bet that most anyone else will be able to as well. But this product makes a great styling aid even if you're not going curly. Used in place of a heavier commercial gel, Gelebration Spray gives control to your style and makes for a great finished style. Awe Inspiring Spray: This is sold as a mid-day pick-me-up for curls. Just a few spritzes to bring droopy curls back to life. That's what the product states - and that is what it does! I found that a few sprays around my just finished style and then a quick zip of the hair dryer and my curls stay curlier far longer than they do without. When I'm not going curly, my hair is round brushed so it curves up at the bottom. Using this Spray helps keep the bottom curled up all day. Amazing! All told, I'm hooked. Compared to other "natural" hair care solutions on the market, Jessicurl products rock. The outstanding scent beats any other hair care product I've ever used and their use of natural and non-toxic ingredients make these products a smart choice. I recommend this line of hair care to anyone with hair - curly or not. Winks & Co makes just one product. A Whipped Body Butter. And this one product is, for lack of a better term, perfect! We received a jar of their Coconut Lemongrass to test. Now I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a huge lemongrass fan. At first sniff, I found the scent to be a bit too lemony for my own personal taste. We were preparing to go on summer vacation when this arrived, so I stuck it into my bath bag and forgot about it until a beautiful sunny day on the lake when one of my sisters began rummaging through my bag looking for something to put on her dry and sunburnt skin. What a treat! Being in the sun, lounging about, the scent suddenly was quite delightful. It was like a cross between suntan lotion (the coconut portion) and a citrus beverage. Refreshing is how one sister described it. But the scent is just the beginning. The Body Butter itself is incredible. Light. Airy. Definitely "whipped to perfection!" I would describe the texture as a very light canned frosting. But even that is heavier than this delicacy. Maybe whipped cream would be better comparison. Whatever the texture can be compared to, this product was the hit of the summer. In fact, in one short week the jar was completely empty! Every girl at the lake was using it. This Body Butter fully penetrates the skin leaving it soft silky and most importantly, non-greasy! (Is there much worse than a greasy product? Yuck. Thankfully this butter doesn't even begin to do this!) The scent that is left behind is yumm-a-licious! I would definitely recommend Coconut Lemongrass as a summer staple in your sunbathing bag. In the end, I personally did not get to try this product as much as I would have liked. However, I did get some feedback from those who hogged it all. "I love this cream. Where did you get it? It's making my dry legs smoother than they've been in years!" "Where is that lemon stuff you brought? I want to use it on my back. I can't believe it's not hurting from how burnt I got. That stuff is amazing." "I'm not sure how you are managing to score free bath products, but I want a lifetime supply of this butter. I LOVE IT!" For young (2 1/2) and old (not telling that!) Winks & Co. Body Butter was a success. Yes, you don't have much to choose from in the way of different products from this company. But really, when they make something so completely divine, does that really matter? I would think the choice presented would be tough enough - which delicious scent to get! September 11, 2006 Highly Scented Candles, by AJ's Country Cottage: "We use 50% more fragrance oil than your average candle, so you'll get great scent both cold and burning. The aroma can be smelled from at least 3-6 feet away as long as candle is burning out of drafts. Many scent a room up to 8-10 feet away!" I know you're wondering why we're reviewing a candle of all things on our "bath and body products" review site, right? Simply put - this is one of the best scented candles we've ever used. Period. And in our minds, a candle is a must have for any bathing beauty! So, onward we go. Like many people, I first jumped into the ever-growing candle craze when I was introduced to Yankee Candles. It wasn't long before I was a frequent shopper and the signature YC jars dotted the landscape of my home. But, for as much as I loved these candles, I was a bit disconcerted. They were priced quite high, in my opinion, and I quickly learned my lesson about letting them burn to close to a ceiling or wall - black soot everywhere. Plus, by the time you got to the bottom, the pervasive scent was not the fragrance shown on the jar, but rather burnt wick. Pew. So, I eventually stopped using their candles and through the years would pick up a candle here and there (because really, once you're a candle freak, you never go back!) Then I stumbled across this little gem. At first glance, it's not much to look at. With a simple, cottage style logo and the cute little jar, I figured this was just some person trying to make a quick buck with a so-so product. Quite happily... I was dead wrong! Just opening the lid on any of AJ's candles is enough to scent the room in which the jar is sitting. One doesn't need to even light the wick to know that this candle is something special. And once lit, wow oh wow. This baby packs a punch! My house has high ceilings (10+ feet) throughout and being a southwestern home is open and airy. A tough house to scent with a single burning candle. And yet this candle manages to do what no other candle has done before - not only does it scent the room in which it's lit, you can smell it throughout the entire house. All 1800 sq feet! It reaches under closed bedroom doors and around corners and down the hallways to our home office. I kid you not - this is likely the most powerful candle I've ever lit. And the scents. I hope I can finish writing this before I swoon. The scents are fabulous. Incredible. True to the scent they mimic. And not only when they are first burnt, but all the way to the very bottom. There is no "burnt wick" odor that can be detected. The candle shown is Pink Sugar clone. Delicious. Even the men of the house like this scent. The scent brings to mind a gift shop or sitting next to a finely dressed woman. Very pleasant and scented just enough to travel through the home without being overwhelming. Honestly, I love this scent. I've also had the privilege of burning other scents. Her food scents are to die for. Blueberry Muffins is my absolute favorite. I think I gained 5 pounds burning this candle as I was overcome with the bizarre desire to make blueberry pancakes 7 mornings running. Another favorite is her Wildberry Crisp. I was again struck by the baking bug and found myself making and then consuming berry cobblers. Incredible! No matter the scent, you simply cannot go wrong in choosing a candle from AJ's Country Cottage. With a burn time running into the 50+ hour range, these little candles are an amazing bargain.
